Coolant Filter Kit for Ford 6.9/7.3 IDI

Early Ford F series trucks were prone to suffer cylinder cavitation after many miles, if their coolant lacked supplemental coolant additives (SCA's) not inherently built into the recommended grade of coolant specified for these engines.  Furthermore, particulate matter, rust, scale and other elements trapped in the pores of cast iron can circulate in the cooling system, plugging radiator and heater core tubes, as well as shorten the life of water pump bearings and can contribute to water pump blade and front cover wear.  Your engine may be on the verge of hydrostatic lockup, if this native condition has not yet been addressed.  When you shut your engine down, coolant pressure remains until the engine cools, and during this time any cylinder cavitation may allow water into a cylinder or into your engine oil.  This can result in a bent connecting rod, a cracked piston, the inability to crank the engine, or a blown head gasket, and accelerate engine wear.  Once cavitation has occurred, replacement or rebuilding of the engine is necessary.  Many heavy duty diesel engine manufacturers specify coolant filters as part of the implementation of the engine.  Indeed, even International Harvester/Navistar put coolant filters on these engines as part of their use in their own bus and truck products, and many of these filters are integral with the water pump.

Our coolant filter kit solves all these problems.  Simply install the coolant filter assembly on our pre-fabricated mounting bracket which attaches to the factory fuel filter bracket, plumb in the provided hoses in parallel with your existing heater core, using the provided T's and clamps, and your coolant will be conditioned by the correct SCA embedded in the filter.   Replacement filters with varying amounts of SCA are available, as well as a zero SCA filter, if you are using an alternative coolant.

For a fresh coolant change, flush your cooling system with clean water, drain and add the recommended 50/50 mix of pre-charged DCA4 compatible coolant.  Install the full-charge ready WC15 filter.

  • Diffusion control orifice meters diffusion of SCA (Supplemental Coolant Additive) chemical into coolant flow - maintaining proper system balance
  • Balanced Treatment Additive (BTA PLUS) is a direct replacement for DCA4 and can be used in systems with antifreeze levels ranging from 0 to 60 percent in ethylene/propylene glycol solutions.
